Estevis López clears up his absence from Panama U20

Panama U20 player Estevis López has generated controversy on social media after not traveling with the team to Pachuca, Mexico, where the team is preparing for the Concacaf U20 Championship.

López posted on his Instagram account that he did not reject the call-up to the Panama U20 team, but had to absent himself after undergoing an intense test with the German club Bayern Múnich and a family incident.

"In no moment did I reject the call-up or decide not to present myself on my own. My situation had already been discussed previously", he explained. "I come from having been training for a month in Bayern Múnich, where I had a very important physical load... While I was in Germany, my little brother Dylan had to be operated on, a situation that affected a lot of my family and also me. To all this, it is added that I have commitments with the Panama U17 team".

The player, who defended the colors of Veraguas United in the Clausura 2026 tournament of the Panamanian Football League (LPF), indicated that "together with the people who accompany me in my career, we understood that it was best to prioritize my recovery to be in the best conditions".

"I want to make it clear that for me, it will always be a pride to represent Panama. I would never say no to my selection", he emphasized.

The Panamanian team has had a streak of three consecutive losses in their last games, including the last loss to England in the 12th date of the classification for the 2026 World Cup, where they fell 0-2 (2026-06-27).
