In their debut match against Canada, Panama struggled offensively. According to Concacaf statistics, the National U-20 team created five opportunities, with one being of higher risk to goal. They managed seven total shots, two of which were blocked.

Raheen Cuello, a standout player, came close to scoring when his shot went wide in the 7th minute of the first half, despite the score still being blank. The Panamanian team held 37% possession compared to Canada's 63%, making it difficult for them to handle and control the ball effectively.

Ruiz added while discussing the first two goals given up by Panama: "With one more player on the field, I believe that was the only thing we needed. The first two goals came from set pieces and a penalty. These things can happen in football, but with ten players out there, we might have found a way to turn it around."
