Panama has a new fitness coach. The Panamanian Football Federation (FPF) announced the appointment of Spaniard Sergio Pardo Carrillo to the role on Tuesday, completing Thomas Christiansen's technical staff.

The move comes as the squad prepares in Bengaluru, India, for an Asian tour. Pardo Carrillo, 48, brings over twenty years of professional experience. Born in Málaga, he holds a Master's in High Performance in Football from the University of Catalonia and a diploma in Physical Education from the University of Granada.

His recent career includes a stint with Mexico's Santos Laguna from 2024 to 2026. Prior to that, he was part of the technical staff at Spain's Rayo Vallecano during the 2023-2024 season. His arrival follows the departure of Christian Beguer, who left his post on September 11.

The FPF welcomed the new staff member with a social media post. "¡Bienvenidos a la concentración ⚡️👊🏻!#MareaQueLate," the federation said.

The appointment aims to provide fresh impetus for a squad handling a tough period. Panama sits fourth in their World Cup group with zero points from three straight defeats, a situation detailed on our standings page. The team is looking to end a run of three matches without scoring, having lost 0-2 to England last time out. Pardo Carrillo's work will be vital in shaping the squad's physical readiness, which will be tracked in our performance stats, for the challenges ahead. Their next friendly against India on Friday, September 25, is listed on our fixtures page.
