On August 22, Panama celebrates International Folklore Day with the International Folklore Festival in Boquete, Chiriquí province. This event, which runs until August 23, brings together folklore groups from Chile, Mexico, and Colombia, along with showcases of Chiriquí handicrafts. The initiative is part of activities organized by the Ministry of Culture, including the Folklore Week with events like the Foro de la Pollera at the Beby Torrijos theater. The Gala de Antaño took place on Friday, August 21, while the National Folklore Gala on Saturday, August 22, honored notable folklore figures. The National Folklore Directorate and the National Folklore School «Dora Pérez de Zárate» organized a symposium with experts on topics such as Afro-Panamanian identity and traditional music. Panamanian folklore represents the fusion of indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-descendant influences, a cultural heritage aimed at preserving for future generations.
